Goku's mother is a low level ranked Saiyan named Taanipu. Taanipu was Bardock's mate, a close friend to Fasha and the mother of Raditz and Goku. She not only had long spikey hair like Raditz, she also had a nasty attitude like him. Unlike the other Saiyans on Planet Vegeta who died because of it's explosion, Taanipu died after giving birth to Goku. Just days before Planet Vegeta's demise.

Audiences worldwide can now enjoy the anime adaptation of "Episode of Bardock", as Toei Animation's "Anime Jan" website is currently offering a free stream until December 28, 2011 that is not region-locked (but without subtitles).
